مشخصات فنی و قیمت پله برقی‌ها بر حسب کاربری در ساختمان متفاوت می‌باشد. انتخاب پله ‌برقی مناسب برای هر نوع مصرف در ساختمان، از اهمیت بالایی برخوردار است ، از آنجایی که پله‌برقی پس از نصب قابل تغییر یا جا به‌ جایی نیست این دقت چند برابر می‌شود. پله‌برقی‌ها بر اساس مکان مورد استفاده به چند دسته تقسیم می‌شوند :

۱- پله‌برقی‌هـای تجـاری :
امروزه در بسیاری از فروشگاه‌های بزرگ، مراکز تجاری و هتل‌هایی که بیش از یک طبقه لابی دارند، شاهد استفاده از پله برقی‌ها هستیم. اصولاً ساختمان‌هایی که ساعت کاری آنها کمتر از ۱۲ ساعت در روز است و ترافیک جمعیت در طول روز به صورت یکنواخت توزیع می‌شود باید از پله برقی‌های تجاری استفاده کنند.

۲- پله برقی‌ های نیمه تجاری :

ساختمان‌ها یا کاربری‌هایی وجود دارند که از پله‌برقی در بیشتر اوقات شبانه روز توسط عموم استفاده می‌شود و معمولاً در خارج از ساختمان با پوشش کامل قراردارند یا در مسیر استفاده عموم در داخل ساختمان‌هایی هستند که همواره مسیر رفت و آمد است. از جمله این کاربری‌ها می‌توان به پل‌های عابر پیاده، ایستگاه‌های دورافتاده و غیراصلی مترو، بخش‌هایی از ساختمان‌های عمومی که دسترسی بین دو سطح خیابان‌ها از طریق آنها انجام می‌گیرد، اشاره نمود.

۳- پله برقی‌های غیرتجاری :

اماکن و کاربری‌های غیرتجاری که معمولاً در تمام ساعات شبانه روز دارای ترافیک سنگین هستند و یا در ساعات خاصی هجوم جمعیت را تحمل ‌می‌کنند در این رده هستند. ایستگاه‌هـای مترو، ایستگاه‌هـای قطار، پایانه‌هـای بزرگ در این رده بندی قرار می‌گیرند. می‌توانید تصور کنید که با هر بار رسیدن مترو به ایستگاه‌های اصلی حجم عظیمی از جمیعت برای ورود و خروج از ایستگاه‌ها از پله برقی‌ها استفاده ‌می‌کنند. دویدن روی پله‌هـا ایستادن بیش از یک نفر روی هر پله (Step) در این اماکن امری بدیهی به شمار می‌رود. این نوع پله ها سنگین‌ترین و گران‌ترین نوع پله برقی‌ها هستند سیستم ایست – رو (Stop & Go) پیش‌بینی شود.
